A ship of fools...

A ship of fools

My ship of fools,
My ship of fools,
Made by myself
I earned the tools.

It’s me a’winded round the mast,
As masked I stare into the past.
A vanished man I carefully sit,
Where once my sail had wind in it.

My ship of fools,
My ship of fools,
Made from a life
So bent by rules.

I fished the waves with me as bait,
A sea of lust and loss and hate.
I sat boxed in upon the prow,
My head on fire but empty now.

My ship of fools,
My ship of fools,
We’re on a journey
For lost souls.

Hooked, lined and sinkered, taken in,
I hanged myself for every sin.
The beak I hang from is my own,
Above I flap, a thing of bone.

My ship of fools,
My ship of fools,
I am their vessel
And they my dues.

  3. AKH, I think it is important to stay on the ship until she finds land. The real unfortunates are those in the water. Those on the ship still have hope. Do not fall overboard!
    Fantastic drawing & poem.

  4. Any chance of a post explaining who some of the new characters are? I do miss trying to guess (incorrectly) what the characters represent that you doodle during some tedious meeting!

  7. I love this picture! :-)

I came across it searching for a logo of a pirate alliance I want to start in my favourite browser game, Caribic Islands. I want to call the ally "Ship of Fools". So I was searching through all these ancient prints when I happened on your painting and thought: "This is it!!!"

Would you allow me to use it in-game? I'll gladly put in a link to your site, of course. In exchange I could offer you a poem of mine. Because I am no good with pictures, but a wizard with words. ;-)

    Here it comes:

    The Quest

    so lost at sea
    I am a pirate
    with empty hands
but thoughts of silver and gold
    my dreams frozen jewels
    in the loneliness of night

    the old friends were dispelled
    in the storms of life
my crew has long deserted me
and the last rat has drowned

    still I drift on
    with broken oars
    searching for promised lands
    beyond empty horizons

    where there be dragons
