Little Duckington Episode 3 – Preparations are made…

The wedding between Dunny and Delilah is the talk of Little Duckinton. Delilah has been rushed off her feet with the arrangements; booking the church (St. Duckwalds in the centre of town), arranging the car (she’s hired a vintage Brentley to take her to the church, and they’re keeping it on for the honeymoon), ordering the cakes for the reception (she’s having three - ducks love cake), picking out the bridesmaids headdresses (she’s having five), and of course sending out the invitations (it’s going to be a big do).

At last the day has finally arrived and everyone has put on their Sunday best ready for the grand occasion.

Dilly is wearing the hat that Colette brought for her all the way from a Paris milliner, spectacular isn’t it; and Dubby has brushed off his grandfather Dab’s old black Topper, doesn’t he look a dapper duck.

The children have scrubbed up nicely to - Danni and Donni in their wedding ties, and Debbi and Dolly in a flounce of ribbons and fluffy headwear.

Claude, ‘Le Canard extrordinaire’, arrived from France last night. What an imposing figure he makes with his handlebill moustache. I’m not at all sure about Colette’s hat though - although I’m sure that it is the height of fashion in Paris. Claudette is still wearing her ‘Frère Jacques’, but at least she’s taken off her sunglasses and swapped her beret for a hat that matches Debby’s.

Delilah’s two maiden aunts, Dot and Dottia, are attending - and her sisters, Dolina and Dianna (the one with the red double bun) have arrived with their respective husbands, Dabney and Dackso (Dabney is the older duck with the grey comb-over, he’s a bit older than Dolina).

Dianna and Dackso’s five daughter’s – Desa, Dosa, Dasa, Disa, and Deidre are Delilah’s bridesmaids – don’t they look fine in their bridesmaid’s gear. Father O’Mallard is conducting the ceremony. His nephew D’arcy is up from Quackbridge and Delilah has graciously invited him along to the wedding. D'arcy is O'Mallards pride and joy, he's so proud of him. He's hoping that one day D'arcy will follow in his footsteps and become a member of the clergy and he's footing the bill for D'arcy's education. D'arcy has it made if he plays his cards right - Father O'Mallard is a very wealthy man. Mind you, D'arcy has a bit of a problem with cards - he's always loses.

Everyone looks so smart. Even the Dave Ducks have put ties on! Oh, and we mustn’t forget Denzil and Dil. Denzil looks after Dil, in fact everyone looks after Dil – Dil needs looking after, he’s a bit of a special duck; he doesn’t quack and he’s been that size for as long as anyone can remember.

So everyone and everything is ready. The wedding preparations are set, the car is waiting to take the bride to the church, the bridesmaids have stopped giggling, and the congregation are all dressed up in their best bill and ducker.

Let the festivities begin!

  1. You've been a busy bunny. Some of your pictures are really good. There is a lot of money to be made in (duck) wedding photography, you should get a lot of work from this blog.

  3. BMD - What on earth can happen in a sleepy little town like Little Duckington?

Glynne - there is no Rubber Duck children's programme - this is an experiment - just think of the merchandising... Bob the Builder has generated 2.1 BILLION pounds for their creators!!
