It's hard to find a good word to say about cancer. It touches so many people's lives, leaving holes and unhappiness - a mother here, an uncle there; brothers, sisters, fathers, friends.
There are times when it looks like it's winning and that nothing can stop it. Truth is, little by little it's beginning to lose ground. Progress is being made; slow progress admittedly, but progress nonetheless - thank God.
My two daughters, Cloe and Holly, entered the Race for Life today to raise money for the fight against cancer. They took different approaches - Holly and her friends took the 'let's look really wacky and not worry too much about where we come' approach, and Cloe went for the best time she could manage - and WHAT a time she achieved!
Cloe did fantastically well running the 10 kilometre course in 52.43 and coming in with the first fifty or so! Holly and co. ambled around the 5 kilometre course in about 1 hour 20. Either way, they all seemed to enjoy themselves and you have to admire them - not to mention the thousands of other participants.
One day, through the money raised by sponsored events like today's Race for Life, cancer WILL be beaten and Holly and her friends will need to find another excuse to spray their hair pink and paint their faces.
Well done all.
One good thing you can say for cancer - it brings people together with a will.
By the way - if you like what you see all donations are welcome...
The race begins..
Cloe puts in a fantastic time...
Holly and Lisa cross the line running!
You're right to be proud of them AKH, it's a great cause to support.
ReplyDeleteThey are doing another in September - Cloe has decided to train for this one - I think if she gave it a shot she could come top 3!
ReplyDeleteHolly is considering her outfit!
